With overwhelming interest in our new math club, which filled to capacity, students worked in fun ways on some of the more subtle skills that lead to success in math. Attendees across six grade levels worked and played together and in parallel at the first-ever math club session this week. In just a few minutes, students learned how to solve a type of logic/arithmetic puzzle, how to play a spatial reasoning board game, and how to solve a certain type of logic challenge that increases in difficulty. The participants were free to choose any games or activities they liked from a selection of more than two dozen options. Some played strategy games that helped them develop spatial reasoning skills while they anticipated possible moves of their opponents. Others worked together to solve logic puzzles, choosing the challenge level that best suited them. Students had enough time to try at least two different activities and will learn new games and puzzles in the remaining weeks of math club.
