After a field trip with her students to a local Breakout room (suggested by a parent), Mrs. Flick assigned her graduating 8th-graders last year a capstone project to create two math-related escape room challenges for their classmates.
The students' puzzle sets were so well done that Mrs. Flick applied last spring for a grant to purchase materials to develop additional curriculum-based classroom escape experiences. The Greater Cincinnati Foundation generously funded the entire grant request!
Soon we will have in-house custom-made kits for teachers at all levels to use to create and execute escape room experiences in their classrooms. This exhilarating, blood-pumping, work-against-the-clock activity is a great way for children to learn new information or to cement previously-learned skills and knowledge. Additionally, students develop essential problem-solving and collaboration skills as they work as a team to "breakout" in time.
